Lasting Legacy: Lex Marinos Honored in Final Film Role in It’s Our Time
It’s Our Time, set to hit cinemas in February 2025, is more than just another romantic comedy for the team behind Joy House Productions and Avenoir Productions.
This film marks the final work of the late Lex Marinos, and it has been dedicated to him in the closing credits, paying tribute to his humor, humility, and kindness.
“Lex was greatly loved by all the cast and crew,” reflects writer and director Joy Hopwood. “His fun on-set antics will be treasured amongst us all. He’ll be remembered for not only his great sense of humour and wit but also his humbleness and deep respect for everyone involved in this production.”
Filmed entirely in Sydney, It’s Our Time follows Emilia Kong (Tiana Hogben, Thank God You’re Here), an aspiring filmmaker who is desperate to fund her passion project while grappling with an impending eviction. When her funding application is denied, Emilia takes a bold step by approaching Film Reach directly, where she meets funding officer Shannon Edmunds (Peter Thurnwald, XO, Kitty / Bump). But Emilia’s aspirations become more complicated when Shannon, in a surprising twist, takes an interest in her best friend, Zoe Chadwick (Bianca Bradey, Wyrmwood).
For Tiana Hogben, who plays the lead, the film also offered a chance to portray an authentic friendship between two female characters, adding depth to the story. “It was a joy to work on this film and to see Lex’s magic on screen. I think audiences will feel the love and dedication we poured into every scene,” Hogben says.
Peter Thurnwald, who portrays Shannon, shared. “Lex was a wonderful icon to Australian television.”
Hopwood adds, “This film was created with so much love, and Lex’s legacy only makes it more special. We hope audiences will enjoy every moment and remember him as fondly as we do.”
The film will premiere on February 9 at Sydney’s Randwick Ritz, concluding its theatrical run on February 16 at Melbourne’s Lido Cinemas.
